Notes:
This species is characterized by a robust habit; triangular fleshy stipules; cymose inflorescences that are generally shorter than the leaves; white fruits; and pyrenes that are broadly triangular to rounded abaxially. Notopleura macrophylla was circumscribed by Standley (1930) and other 20th century authors for a morphologically heterogeneous group of plants. These plants were analyzed by Taylor (2001) and classified into several species, including Notopleura macrophylla, Notopleura tolimensis, Notopleura anomothyrsa, Notopleura steyermarkiana, and Notopleura montana, Taylor (2024) additionally separated Notopleura albamontana.
