Annotation: Publ. as "Psychotria carapichea (Poir.) Delprete" based on Tagopomea carapichea Poir., which is a nom. superfl. illeg. for Carapichea guianensis Aubl. This name in Psychotria can thus be considered a nom. nov. for Carapichea guianensis. However Steyermark's name Psychotria ligularis var. carapichea Steyerm. was also cited in that work, and this name could be treated as a combination based on that. Delprete subsequently published another work on this species in which he treated this name as a combination.
