S. falconeri Hook. f. is closely related to S. andryloides (DC.) Schultz‒Bip. and often treated as a synonym of the latter taxon. However, both the species are quite different. S. falconeri has a distinct upto 30 cm tall stem with discolourous leaves, phyllaries are pale below darkened above and purple corolla. Whereas in S. andryloides stem is almost absent, leaves are concolorous, phyllaries are purplish or reddish purple and corolla is purplish red. Moreover, the former species has a narrow distribution and restrictd to Pakistan and India whereas the latter is distributed in India, Pakistan and China.
