Pantropical of unknown origin. Possibly from the Lesser Antilles and introduced elsewhere. ~Ipomoea demerariana~ Choisy was placed in synonymy here by Staples et al. (2020), but Wood et al. (2020) argues that the type is ~I. demerariana~ and a second collection belong to ~Operculina~.
