This species was described based on the collection Baron 3773, from "Central Madagascar"; the distributional information for this species is not further detailed here because its identity is not clear at this time. Several recent collections from Toamasina at ca. 900-1000 m have been identified as Coptosperma pachyphyllum, and one or all may be correctly identified; at first glance however these specimens appear to include at least two different species.
