Suffruticose, erect or ascending, sparsely pubescent to glabrous, 20 – 30 cm tall herb with fibrous roots. Leaves obovate, 1 – 3 (-5) cm long including petioles, often glandular punctate, glabrescent, the upper and lowermost leaves entire. Capitula solitary, terminal, 0.9 – 1.5 (-1.7) cm in diameter, on 1.6 – 3.8 cm long, generally woolly or softly tomentose peduncles. Involucre 3-seriate, phyllaries 4 – 6 (-7) mm long, with scarious dark brown apices. Receptacle often convex, sometimes hemispherical. Ray-florets female, with elliptic-ovate, 1 – 1.6 (-2) cm long, white ligules. Disc-florets yellow, with 2 – 2.5 (-3) mm long corolla, often with sessile glands. Cypselas pale-brown, 0.5 – 1 mm long, 5-ribbed. Pappus a corona of short scales.
