Comment/Acknowledgements: Despite the remarkable structure of the calyx, quite without teeth, it is, in all other respects, a typical Nepeta.

Perennial, suffruticose, clump-forming. Stems many, erect 30-60 cm, branching from the base, caneseent-tomentose with white eglandular crisped-retrorse hairs, leafy. Leaves triangular-ovate or ovate, 15-50 x 10-25 mm, thickish in texture, crenulate, truncate to cordate, acute, rugose, with numerous sessile oil globules on abaxial surface; petiole on lower leaves to c. 1 cm, less above. Inflorescence of many-flowered, sessile, contiguous verticillasters forming a terminal spike; lowermost verticillasters subtended by small upper leaves. Bracts broad-ovate, up to 3 x 2 mm, membranous. Pedicels subabsent. Calyx 4-5 mm, tubular, eglandular-villous and with sessile oil globules, green or reddish-purple; throat oblique, with entire rounded obtuse lips; upper lip broader and somewhat longer than lower. Corolla yellow tinged lilac, 10 mm; tube slender, curved, gradually broader above, slightly exserted; upper lip short, straight; lower lip reflexed, longer than upper. Nutlets 15 x 0.9 mm, dark brown, depressed tuberculate and with minute papillae, broad rounded oblong with a prominent V-shaped areole.
