Contributor Text: I.C. Hedge
Type: Type: [Soviet C Asia] Tian Shan, Kirghiz, river Kugart 6 vi 1911, Knorring s.n. (LE - n.v.).
Distribution: Distribution: NE Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, C. Asia.
Comment/Acknowledgements: Very variable in the size, shape and dissection of the leaves. Although this taxon is sometimes described (in C. Asiatic Floras and in Flora Iranica) as glabrescent or glabrous, all our specimens are quite clearly pilose to pubescent. Some of our gatherings closely resemble subsp. nuristanicus (Kitamura) Rech. f. from E. Afghanistan.

I have not seen the type of the recently described Leonurus kuprijanoviae Krestov. (Bot. Zhurn. 73, 12: 1753. 1988): Chitral, Drosh Hellah, 2000 m, June 1909, N. 351, S. M. ToppinK”. It was related to Leonurus nuristanicus Kitamura. Krestovskaja (l.c.) also recognized the following taxa, at specific levels in our area: Leonurus turkestanicus, Leonurus nuristanicus, Leonurus pubescens and Leonurus royleana.
