Although much
attention is given to P. quinquefolius by virtue of its commercial
value, it should be noted that a second native species, P. trifolius L.
(dwarf ginseng), also grows in the northeastern United States (but not as far
southwest as Missouri) and is used medicinally to a lesser extent.
