About 7 species, North America.

An interesting characteristic of Onosmodium species that has resulted in underestimation of perianth size in some floristic accounts is that the flowers tend to appear precociously fertile. That is, the style becomes long-exserted from the bud and the stamens shed their pollen before the corolla has become fully enlarged (Al-Shehbaz, 1991).
