Comment/Acknowledgements : All the 3 syntypes cited by Baker are present in the Kew Herbarium. Out of these, the above mentioned specimen is selected as the lectotype.

Subshrub, tall, slender, much branched, branches circular in transverse section, smooth, green young branches slender, delicate, very frequently divericate, occasionally reflexed. Leaves spurred in the first place, lower subspiny. Cladode (2) 3-6 (-8) in each fascicle, needle-l ike to bristle-lik e, erect to ascendens, 3-12 mm long, often deciduous. Flowers hermaphrodite, 1-4 on the branches on the tip or in the axils. Perianth 3 mm long. Pedicel 3-3.5 mm long and articulated below the middle. Berry red, c. 5 mm in diameter.
