The identity of this name in modern taxonomy is not known. It is based on plants found in India, so it is presumably a cultivated form of Cinchona calisaya or Cinchona pubescens or a hybrid. It has been treated as a synonym of Cinchona calisaya (e.g., Kew World Checklist) but Andersson (1998: 61) in his study of Cinchona regarded it as either cultivated Cinchona calisaya or a hybrid involving that species.
