Notes:
This species is characterized by its glabrescent habit, oblanceolate subsessile leaves with pubescent domatia, pedunculate paniculiform inflorecences with the flowers subsessile in subcapitate groups, somewhat short denticulate calyx limbs, somewhat short corollas with the tube about as long as or a little longer than the lobes, and medium-sized subglobose fruits. The leaves are tapered in their lower half to a shortly obtuse or rounded base. This leaf form and the short petioles are distinctive in Coussarea in this region. Coussarea bocainae is similar to Coussarea meridionalis, with elliptic leaves and developed petioles.
