Nomenclature:

Ankyropetalum gypsophiloidcs Fenzl, Bot. Zeit. 1: 393 (1843); Boiss., Fl. Orient. 1: 533 (1867); Barkoudah, Wentia 9: 173 (1962). Type: Mesopotamia et Assyria ad Mardin, Assauer et Behshabur, Th. Kotschy 356, P.M.R. Aucher-Eloy 552 (G-BOIS, syntypes). [Plate 138]

Grey-green perennial herb, 30-80 cm. Stems ascending or decumbent, branched, glabrous or puberulent and sometimes viscid-glandular above. Leaves 1-4 x 0.1-0.2 cm., soon deciduous, linear, glandular-pubescent. Pedicels filiform, much longer than calyx. Calyx 3-6 mm., tubular, glandular-puberulent; teeth very small, ovate-rounded, white-margined. Petals longer than calyx, purplish to pink; limb 5-lobed, the middle lobe deltoid, often limb 3-lobed with middle lobe anchor-shaped; claw linear-cuneate, exserted. Capsule almost included in calyx, ellipsoid. Seeds with somewhat muricate wartlets. Fl. June-July.
