This species has been frequently recorded from Pakistan and other neighbouring countries. This perennial species which is characterized by weak stem, long ochreal setae and slender spikes most probably does not extend beyond Mediterranean region and Syrian desert. This is replaced in our region by Persicaria longiseta (an annual species) and P. barbata var. gracilis (a perennial species). Though var. gracilis is sometimes treated as conspecific with P. salicifolia by some workers, but we understand both are different entities. Besides the difference in geographical distribution the spikes are also different. It is compact in the var. gracilis but slender in P. salisifolia.
