Plants dendroid. Primary stems creeping, with reduced leaves. Secondary stems erect, irregularly branched; cross section with central strand absent; paraphyllia absent; pseudoparaphyllia filamentous to irregularly foliose; rhizoids red, smooth, not or weakly branched, from circular clusters of initials abaxial to the stolon leaf insertions. Leaf costae single, short and double or absent; median cells el-liptic to linear; alar cells quadrate to oblate. Dioicous or autoicous. Setae immersed or exserted. Exo-stome teeth 16, smooth to minutely papillose; endostome segments rudimentary to absent, cilia ab-sent. Calyptrae cucullate.
