Notes: This unusual species has a glabrescent rather robust habit, large obovate sessile leaves, shortly cymose or racemiform inflorescences, tubular yellow corollas with the tubes ca. 8 mm long and twice as long as the lobes, and somewhat large ellipsoid red fruits. The leaves are tapered in their basal half and rounded to cordulate at the bases. Vegetatively Hoffmannia turrialbana is similar Hoffmannia manussatani and Hoffmannia refulgens, but those species are quite different in inflorescence arrangemennt.
Distribution: At 800-1400 m in east-central Costa Rica.
