About 10 species found in Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, C. Asia, Pakistan and China. 4 species are known from Pakistan.

Small herbs. Phyllaries appressed, ecorniculate, outer phyllaries usually less than or ½ as long as inner, rarely equal, ovate to narrowly lanceolate. Ligules yellow, styles/ stigmas yellow to brownish. Anthers polliniferous or not so. Cypselas 3 – 5  mm long wih few spinules above; cone formed gradually, 0 – 1  mm long; beak thick, 0-4 mm long; pappus 4 – 8  mm long, white, snowy-white to brownish.

Outer phyllaries ovate, 10 – 12  mm long; cypsela 5.5 – 6  mm long, beak of the cypsela 0.5 – 1.0  mm long.

Outer phyllaries lanceolate, 3 – 4  mm long; cypsela c. 5 mm long,  beak of the cypsela 1.2 – 1.8  mm long.

Phyllaries black, the longest outer ones and the inner ones almost equal. Cypsela not papillose.

Phyllaries brownish-green, the longest outer ones at least half the length of the inner ones. Cypsela papillose above.
