Endemic in moist localities in Sub-himalayan hill tracts from Rawalpindi eastwards with frequent summer monsoons (fide R. R. Stewart, l. c.).
Vern.: Jangli Jamun
Differs from the type variety in having more lanceolate, less coriaceous leaves with long acumen and shortly 4-toothed calyx and smaller, globose less fleshy berries.
