Annotation: Protologue explicitly says Dorstenia sect. Xylodorstenia Hijman is here elevated to genus rank, and lists this name as a synonym, and cites a lectotype species for that section (which may be in conflict with other usage) as Dorstenia alta Engl., and no other type is stated for for this genus so by implication that is the type species of Maria also; protologue also has Latin description for the genus. Name honors Dr. Maria E.E. Hijman.
