Notes: Palicourea hazenii is characterized by the combination of its puberulous to hirtellous pubescence on the stems and medium-sized leaves, well-developed stipules with the lobes 2.5–7 mm long, deflexed inflorescences with developed secondary axes bearing five to eleven small glomerules or cymes, subsessile flowers enclosed by green bracts 1.5–6 mm long that are hirtellous to strigillose adaxially and glabrate abaxially, lobed calyx limbs 1.5–4 mm long, white corollas with often curved tubes that are 3–8 mm long and covered for about half their length by the bracts, corolla lobes 1.5–2 mm long, fruits 4–4.5 mm in diameter, and pyrenes with rounded abaxial ridges that are weakly to well-developed. This species shows some regional and clinal variation in several morphological features, as detailed by Taylor (2019) and field study will be needed to fully understand this variation. The circumscription of this species was revised and clarified by Taylor (2019); it corresponds generally to Psychotria recordiana of Taylor (2012), while the plants treated there as Psychotria hazenii generally correspond here to Palicourea ramonensis.
Distribution: Wet forest at 600–2200 m, from Honduras (Olancho) through central Ecuador (Cotopaxi, Napo) and in central Peru (Huánuco).
