Notes
:
This is one of a few species of Erithalis that are morphologically quite distinct: it has suborbicular subsessile leaves, "spinescent" stipules (or perhaps cuspidate), and subesssile, one to 3, relatively large flowers. The full identity and relationships of Exostema orbiculatum were unclear for some time (e.g., McDowell, 1995), but its placement in Erithalis was confirmed in the very nice molecular survey of Franck et al. (2017) although they added relatively few morphological characters.
