A small, 8 – 15  cm tall herb, sparsely hairy to glabrous. Leaves 5 – 8  x 1- 2 cm, pinnatisect, lobes 3-5 on each side, small, narrow, runcinate, entire or with 1 to few minute teeth. Scapes few, as long as leaves, hairy above.  Capitula 2.5 – 3  cm across. Involucre 1 – 1.5  cm long and broad, green, callose; outer phyllaries 6 x 1.5 – 2  mm, lanceolate, with or without scarious margin. Ligules yellow. Anthers polliniferous. Styles and stigmas yellow. Cypselas brownish-yellow, 4 – 4.5 mm long, densely spinulose above, smooth below, with gradually formed, cylindrical, spinulose, 1.5 – 2  mm long cone; beak 7 – 12  mm long; pappus white, c. 6 mm long, scabrous.
