A small, up to 10 cm tall herb with hairs at base. Leaves blue-green, suffused with purple or with a metallic shining with purple middle nerve, outer leaves oblanceolate, dentate or small lobed; inner ones always lobed, lobes 3-4 on each side, triangular, acute, denticulate, usually runcinate, terminal lobe larger, sagittate, or long-deltoid, entire. Scapes many, dark brown, hairy above, smaller to as long as leaves. Capitula c. 3 cm across. Involucre c. 12 mm long and broad, green; outer phyllaries appressed, slightly recurved at apex, c. 8 x c. 3 mm, lancoelate-ovate to ovate, with broad, white or greenish, scarious margin. Ligules yellow, peripheral ones with dark stripes outside. Anthers polleniferous, style greenish; stigma brownish-green. Cypselas c. 3.7 mm long, immature ones greyish-yellow, mature ones brown, spinulose above, tuberculose below, with abruptly foermed, c. 1.3 mm long, cylindrical, spinulose cone; beak c. 7 – 10  mm long; pappus  6 – 7  mm long, snowy white.
