A small, up to 8 cm tall herb. Leaves 6 – 8  cm long, lobed, lobes c. 3 on each side, triangular, c. 6 mm long, denticulate, terminal lobe c. 1.5 cm long, deltoid; petiole with wide, pinkish wing. Scapes 1-2, smaller than the leaves, densely hairy above. Capitula c. 2 cm across. Involucre 10 – 12  x 15 mm, reddish-green; outer phyllaries 1-1.3 mm broad, linear to lanceolate, recurved, purplish, ciliate and scarious margined; inner ones, linear. Ligules yellow, peripheral ones with purplish or reddish-purple stripes outside. Anthers polliniferous. Styles and stigmas dull yellow. Cypselas brownish, young ones yellowish, c. 3.5 mm long, bluntly spinulose above, rugose below, smooth at the base, with nearly abruptly formed, 1 – 1.2  mm, conical-cylindrical cone bearing few spinules; beak c. 5 mm long; pappus c. 5 mm long, white.
