A small herb, up to 10 cm tall. Leaves c. 12 cm long including brownish-purple petiole, grass-green, dorsally hairy, more so on the nerves, lobed, lobes 5 on each side, patent, triangular, c. 1.5 cm long, 1 to few denticulate, terminal lobe small or as long as the lateral lobes, patent to sagittate. Scapes smaller than leaves, densely hairy above. Capitula c. 3 cm across. Involucre 13 – 14 x 16 mm, reddish-green; outer phylareis 10 x 2 – 3 mm, appressed, purple and recurved at apex, with broad scarious margin. Ligules deep yellow, peripheral-ones with dark stripes outside. Anthers polliniferous. Styles and stigmas greenish-yellow. Cypselas orangish when young, brownish at maturity, c. 3.2 mm long, spinulose above, rugose below, smooth at base, with subabruptly formed, c. 0.8 mm long, conical-cylindrical cone; beak c. 7 mm long; pappus c. 6 mm long, white.
