Cooked seeds used by Alaska Eskimos to prepare a beverage. Fresh seeds eaten by Makah. Young plants eaten as a vegetable (and used to treat rheumatism) by Iroquois. (Moerman 1998) Lathyrus japonicus subsp. maritimus has fruits and seeds that are edible when immature (Facciola, 1998).
