Description: Plants 50–80 mm high. Corm ellipsoid, 10–15 × 7–12 mm with basal ridge 4–6 mm wide. Leaves 3 to 5, spreading, linear to lanceolate, plane or weakly conduplicate, 30–60 × 3–6 mm, ciliolate on margins, apices slightly thickened and boat-shaped. Flowers hypocrateriform, pale to deep violet or rarely white; perianth tube trumpet-shaped, widening in distal 5 mm, 25–35 mm long; tepals obovate, 15–20 × 8–10 mm, subacute. Stamens erect; filaments 5–6 mm long, white; anthers suberect, 5–7 mm long, yellow. Style 33–38 mm long, dividing near  middle of anthers,  branches 4–5 mm long, spathulate or lacerate. Capsules clavate or turbinate, 5–10 mm long. Seeds angled, ± 1.5 mm diam., brown, testa colliculate or partly foveolate. Chromosome number: 2n= 12. Flowering time:  May–June.

Distribution and ecology: endemic to the eastern Little Karoo, Western Cape between Oudshoorn and De Rust, in stony washes on quartzite slopes.
Diagnosis: distinctive in its 3–5, linear to lanceolate, channelled leaves 3–6 mm wide and showy flowers with perianth tube 25–35 mm long and obovate tepals 15–20 × 8–10 mm.
