Country: South Africa, Lesotho
South African Province: Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal
Distribution and ecology: extending through the southern Drakensberg, from Queenstown in Eastern Cape to Kokstad in KwaZulu-Natal and Sehlabathebe in southeastern Lesotho, on open grassy slopes and ridges among rocks, mostly above 1000 m.

The filaments are 25–35 mm long, exserted 5–7 mm from the perianth tube. Watsonia latifolia from northern KwaZulu-Natal and southern Mpumalanga with similar long-tubed, red flowers has broad, bright green leaves, 30–60 mm wide, and the upper part of the perianth tube 18–24 mm long and slightly shorter than the tepals.
