Comment/Acknowledgements: Press (Bull. Brit. Mus., Nat. Hist, 10, 1: 70. 1982) placed Elsholtzia densa and Elsholtzia eriostachya in the bitypic sect. Platyelasma (Briq.) Press characterized by the inflated fruiting calyces.

Of identical habit, leaf form, indumentum and inflorescence structure to the previous species, but: flowering calyx c. 1 mm, increasing and ± inflating in fruit to 3 mm long and 2 mm wide, flowers yellow c. 2.1 mm, fruiting inflorescence up to 0.8 cm wide and nutlets c. 1.1 x 0.5 mm.
