2b. var. hirsuta (Short) Fernald

Stems moderately to densely pubescent with relatively long (mostly 1–2 mm), spreading hairs. Leaf blades with sparse, spreading gland-tipped hairs, those of the undersurface mostly along the veins. May–July.

Uncommon, sporadic (eastern U.S. west to Missouri and Texas). Mesic to dry upland forests and glades.
