A shrub, 1-2 m tall. Branches stellate hairy. Leaves 2-8 cm long and usually as broad, generally 3 sect with rounded sinuses, unlobed ones broadly ovate, truncate or rounded at base, acute or somewhat obtuse at apex, serrate, upper surface with simple or 2 rayed tubercled hairs, lower stellate pubescent, scabrous on both sides; stipules 3-5 mm long, 1 mm or less broad; petiole 4-6 cm long, accrescent up to 12 cm, densely stellate pubescent. Epicalyx 5-15 mm long, densely stellate pubescent. Flowers axillary, solitary; pedical segments 6-8, 7-11 (-20) mm long, 2-3 mm broad, linear-elliptic, stellate pubescent. Calyx fused at the base, stiff stellate hairy, equalling the epicalyx, lobes 3-5 mm broad, lanceolate, shortly acuminate. Corolla 3 cm across, rose-purple; petals obovate, 3-4.5 cm long, 1-1.5 cm broad, sparsely stellate hairy outside. Staminal column 2-3 cm long, antheriferous from top to below the middle. Ovary ovoid, c. 5 mm long, densely pubescent. Capsule ovoid, 1-2 cm long, beaked, hispid. Seeds 2 mm long, pubescent.
