Description
|
Shrub to 5 m. tall, glabrous or essentially so throughout; petiole 5-10 (rarely 25) mm. long; leaf-blades thin, bright green up to 10 cm. long, oblong or elliptic, a third to nearly half as wide, the members of a pair often unequal, acuminate to a blunt tip, entire, acute at the base, 3-nerved; panicles slender, up to 15 cm. long and 2 cm. in diameter, the numerous short branches seldom again branched and bearing 1-5 sessile flowers; hypanthium campanulate, 3 mm. long, costate in fruit; calyx closed in bud, at anthesis ruptured nearly to the torus into 3-5 broadly triangular lobes; exterior teeth none; petals white, obovate-oblong, 3 mm. long; stamens nearly isomorphic, differing in size; anthers linear, 2.5-3 or 3.5-4 mm. long, the connective very briefly prolonged below the thecae into two lateral lobes, stigma capitate.
