Description
|
Strict terrestrial herbs up to about 50 cm. tall. Stems pseudobulbose, the pseudobulbs 1.5-2 cm. long, borne on the surface or just under the surface of the ground, simple, invested by the leaf-sheaths. Leaves up to about 20 cm. long and 0.5 cm. broad, ensiform, conduplicate. Inflorescence a simple (or branched?) few-flowered raceme. Sepals about 13 mm. long and 3.5-4 mm. broad, lanceolate, acute. Petals about 12 mm. long and 3.5 mm. broad, oblanceolate, acute. Lip 17-20 mm. long and about 16 mm. broad, obscurely trilobate, spurred; lamina when expanded broadly ovate in outline, with 2 small lamellate, pubescent calluses near the middle, and toward the apex a dense patch of pilose pubescence arranged in three lines; spur short, about 5 mm. long, directed outward and backward. Panama, Venezuela, the Guianas and Brazil.
