This species appears to be extremely variable in the size of the leaves and to some extent also the shape. Aside from these variations and the presence of short, stiff hairs in one variety, no characters have been discovered by means of which the specific distinctions suggested by the rather long list of synonyms may be maintained. They are believed to be merely varying members of a rather poly- morphic species.
