Description
|
Coarse erect perennial; culms 1-2 m. high, succulent, scaberulous; sheaths elongate, longer than the internodes, keeled toward the summit, glabrous, pubes- cent on the collar, auriculate, the auricles sometimes hispid-ciliate; ligule 3-5 mm. long, hispid; blades mostly 30-50 cm. long, 1-3.5 cm. wide, scabrous and sparsely pubescent on both surfaces, the margins prominently hispid-scabrous; panicles 30-40 cm. long, the branches verticillate, ascending, scabrous, as much as 25 cm. long, naked toward the base; spikelets 5 mm. long, short-pedicellate, oblong, sparsely hispid, the awns 1-2 cm. long or sometimes wanting; glumes narrow, acuminate, 1 mm. long.
