Description

Perennial; culms very slender, decumbent-spreading, branching, rooting at the lower nodes, 10-50 cm. long, the nodes pubescent or glabrous; sheaths usually much shorter than the internodes, ciliate; blades 1-5 cm. long (rarely to 7 cm.), 3-15 mm. wide, glabrous or minutely pubescent; panicles 1-5 cm. long, with few to several abruptly spreading racemes 5-10 mm. long; spikelets 2.5 mm. long, the first glume acute, one-third to half as long as the spikelet; fruit 1.3 mm. long.

Distribution

Moist woods, swamps, and low ground, Guatemala to Ecuador and Brazil.
