Description
|
Perennial; culms densely tufted, erect, 1-1.5 m. high, glabrous; sheaths com- pressed, keeled, glabrous, the lower ones longer, the upper ones shorter than the internodes; ligule less than 0.5 mm. long, membranaceous, minutely ciliate; blades elongate, conduplicate, hirsute on the upper surface near the base, the margins scabrous; flowering branches from the middle and upper nodes, appressed, formning a long, narrow inflorescence; racemes 3-10 cm. long, partly included in the spathes, the rachis and sterile pedicels auriculate at the summit, the auricles prominent or sometimes very small; sessile spikelets 3-4 mm. long, smooth or obscurely pitted, rather broadly winged; pedicellate spikelet narrower but much shorter than the sessile.
