Tufted perennial; culms up to 70 cm high. Leaf-blades flat, 3-5 cm long, 1.5-2.5 mm wide, scaberulous above, smooth beneath. Spike lax, 7-11 cm long, erect or slightly nodding; rhachis joints scabrid along the margins. Spikelets 3-4-flowered, 12-16 mm long (excluding the awns); glumes subequal, lanceolate, 7.5-9.5 mm long, sharply acuminate, scaberulous on the nerves; lemma oblong-lanceolate, 9-10.5 mm long (excluding the awn), smooth on the back, the nerves thinly scabrid towards the tip, narrowed above into a straight awn 1-3 mm long; palea almost as long to as long as the body of the lemma; anthers 2-2.5 mm long.
