Annotation: Stapf & C.E. Hubb. attribute the name to Stapf ex R.E. Massey, Sudan Grasses 33 (reportedly a nom. nud. there but that not verified). The name was used by Massey in Fl. Sudan 465 (1929) but the species name had not yet been validly published, so the varietal name also remained invalid, until it was finally validated in Fl. Trop. Afr. by Stapf.
