Description Annual; culms slender, prostrate to erect, freely branching at the base and lower nodes, 15-70 cm. long; sheaths glabrous; ligule wanting; blades soft and rather thin, lax, 5-10 cm., rarely 15 cm., long, 3-6 mm., rarely 10 mm., wide, glabrous, the margins sparsely scabrous; inflorescence 3-10 cm. long, rarely longer; racemes few to several, ascending, the lower ones 1-2 cm. distant, 1-3 cm. long; spikelets 2-2.5 mm. long, scabrous or finely hispid; first glume triangular, acute, about one-third as long as the spikelet; second glume and sterile lemma equal, pointed, awnless; fruit 1.8 mm. long, elliptic, acute.
