Plantas pinnadamente ramificadas, 2–6 cm de largo; megasporas con papilas elevadas de forma hexagonal; gloquidios unicelulares.

En Nicaragua esta especie se podría encontrar en aguas estancadas; Alaska y oeste de México hasta Argentina y Uru­guay, también Hawaii, Nueva Zelanda, Australia, naturalizada en Europa.
