Tallo ca 60 cm de alto; hojas 1–1.5 m de largo y hasta 35 cm de ancho; pecíolo café claro a oscuro, con escamas fuertemente bicoloras, además  algunas veces espinoso basalmente, las espinas cuan­do pre­sentes ca 3 mm de largo; lámina 1-pinnado-pinnatífida; raquis alado,  ala 2–3 mm de ancho; pinnas sésiles a sub­sésiles, la superficie foliar glabra, pero con trico­mas y escamas dispersos sobre las costas y los nervios abaxial­mente; soros mediales a inframedia­les, indusio en semicírculo.
