Stems glabrous
below the inflorescence or sparsely pubescent with mostly curved hairs toward
the tip. Leaf blades with the undersurface glabrous. Fruits finely hairy. 2n=18,
36 (apparently 2n=18 in Missouri). June–October.
Uncommon and
widely scattered in the Ozark and Ozark Border Divisions (southeastern U.S.
west to Missouri and Louisiana). Mesic upland forests often above bluffs and
banks of streams and rivers, often on acidic substrates.
This is the
least common of the three varieties in Missouri.
