Arachnoid hairy, up to 20 (-25) cm tall herb, branched from near the base or unbranched. Tap root slightly thickened, 10 – 15 cm long, sparsely branched or unbranched. Leaves pale-green, slightly fleshy, dorsally densely hairy, oblong, revolute-magined,; basal rosulate, shortly petiolate, shallowly pinnatifid with lanceolate, sinuate-dentate terminal lobe; upper stem leaves more or less-decurrent, almost entire. Capitula 2 – 2.5 cm long, umbilicate at the base. Involucre campanulate. Phyllaries linear-lanceolate, 20 – 25 mm long, prolonged into a ± spiny recurved pinkish tip except the innermost. Corolla pink to reddish, tube filiform, 1.5 – 1.8 mm long, longer than 5-lobed limb, lobes divided to half way down. Cypselas dark brown-black, 5 – 6 mm long, narrowed toward base. Pappus bristles barbellate, protruding beyond involucre, outer ca 3 cm long, inner longer than the outer.
