A variable species, two subspecies are usually recognized of which the type subspecies does not occur in our area.

Plants taller, upto 60 cm long. Stem bearing several capitula, rarely single. Ligule small, up to 10 mm long. Cauline leaves ovate-broadly lanceolate, up to 16 mm wide. Anthers and style not exserted in disc florets.

Plants smaller, up to 30 cm long. Stem mostly bearing single capitulum, rarely 2-3. Ligule large, up to 16 mm long. Cauline leaves lanceolate, up to 12 mm wide. Anthers and style exserted in disc florets.
