Subglabrous herb, 5 – 40 cm tall. Leaves linear-lanceolate, 3 – 10 x 0.7 – 1.5 cm, glabrous, deeply lobed, lobes patent, entire, linear, 5-10 on each side, terminal lanceolate, acute; petioles narrow. Scapes 1-3, hairy above. Involucre 10 x 6 mm, somewhat turbinate, outer phyllaries appressed, imbricate, ovate, purple at the tip. Capitulum 1.5 – 2 cm across; ligules yellow with purplish stripes outsides. Anthers polliniferous, pollen irregular. Style and stigmas yellow. Cypselas greyish 3.5 4.4 mm long, spinulose above, gradually tapering into 1 mm long conical cone; beak 5 – 6.5 mm long; pappus 5 – 7 mm long, white to creamish.
