Comment/Acknowledgements:
Similar to S. obvallata in having capitula enveloped by uppermost ± boat shaped leaves (bracts) which are pale–green or purplish red rather pale-yellow as in S. obvallata. Differs from S. obvallata in having solitary villous capitulum rather than 3–10 glabrous capitula. Phyllaries are unequal, leaves lanceolate with acuminate densely glandular apices and uppermost leaves (bracts) subtending capitula are purplish red and ovate.
Grows well on open scree slopes, alpine meadows, along streams, between 4000 – 5600 m in alpine zone among boulders and stones.
Roots are stimulant and used to treat boils, headache, cough, cold, fever and lung infections.
