Notes: This species belongs to Hillia subg. Hillia, and appears to be pollinated by hawkmoths. It is similar vegetatively and in fruit to Hillia macromeris; Hillia macrophylla is collected much more often than Hillia macromeris. As with many nocturnal flowers, there is variation in the size of the corolla of Hillia macrophylla
Distribution: Wet premontane and montane forests at 800-1500 m, Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru.
