Notes:
This species is characterized by medium-sized leaves, rather small laminar bilobed stipules, corymbiform-paniculiform lax inflorescences with the flowers borne in small groups and subtended by elliptic bracts, white cylindrical-funnelform corollas, and rather small blue fruits. This species was described originally in Palicourea at a time when the separation and idenities of these genera were not entirely clear; no explanation was presented in the protologue for its generic classification, and the species most similar to it were classified at the same time in Psychotria by Standley. Accordingly this species was transferred to that other genus by Taylor (1996) to facilitate identification and systematic study of this group. Palicourea dives is similar to Palicourea tilaranensis. The name Psychotria quindienses has sometimes been used incorrectly for Palicourea dives due to confusion about the types of these names.
